Here are some cool things to do in the Cleveland/Akron area while you are visiting.
Cleveland area:
- The Cleveland Museum of Art – A world-class art museum with a particularly notable medieval collection.
- The Western Reserve Historical Society – Managing several sites relating to the history of Northeast Ohio, including…
- The Crawford Auto Museum – Over 170 antique cars!
- The Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame – The heart of rock & roll is, in fact, in Cleveland. No one is sure why; but it works.
- West Side Market – A covered market that’s over a century old, in an historic building.
- Great Lakes Brewing Company – There are many excellent breweries and brewpubs in NE Ohio these days, but GLBC was the trailblazer.
Akron area:
- Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens – Worth a day’s visit even if ya girl wasn’t getting married there. The house and its furnishings are astonishing.
- Cuyahoga Valley National Park – The Cuyahoga River and its valley have come a long way since the last time it caught on fire (which was before many of you were born, ahem). It is a beautiful area for hiking, biking, or just taking a slow drive through. Support your national parks!
- The town of Peninsula – is a charming small town that was created by the opening of the Ohio Canal in the 1830s. It is now a music venue, has a few cute restaurants as well as a great small locally-created food boutique and the gift shop for the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (Support your national parks!)
- The Canal Exploration Center – The first transit connection between Cleveland and Akron was the Ohio Canal. There are some historic sites in the area that focus on that history.
- The Pro Football Hall of Fame (Canton, OH – SE of Akron) – For the sportsball fans, this is a can’t-miss!
